This was a significant joint effort by MESA, DNP-UP and IEEE. It is built upon the MESA-DER Profile and DNP3 AN2018-001 (DER) App Note to develop an International Standard that will speed the deployment of renewable energy, energy storage, and microgrid projects by facilitating easier integration into utility systems.
Overview
IEEE 1815.2 provides a standardized mapping of the key IEC 61850-7-420 data objects to the well-known DNP3 protocol, thus meeting the interoperability requirements for IEEE 1547 and California’s Rule 21. In addition, IEEE 1815.2 includes standardized DNP3 data objects for energy storage systems, controllable load, scheduling, and many market-based functions. IEEE 1815.2 is an update of the MESA-DER Specification and the DNP3 Application Note AN2018-001.
Role and Benefits
- Provide standard SCADA-level communications for utility interactions with DER, IBR, and microgrids
- Reduce costs of technology development and deployment by using well-established DNP3
- Meet all DER interoperability requirements for IEEE 1547 DER interoperability standard
- Reduce risk by enabling supplier flexibility
- Simplify long-term maintenance and system upgrades
- Reduce training and compliance testing costs
DNP-UG Member Access to the Standard and Point Tables
- Access to the standard is included in your membership!
- DNP-UG and MESA have IP sharing agreements in place with the IEEE. This applies to IEEE 1815 and IEEE 1815.1 as well. This allows us to offer the Standard and accompanying point tables as a member benefit.
- To obtain and use the standards on this basis, members must be and remain current in their membership as long as they are using the standard.
- Distribution within member companies is established by the number of User Accounts included with the membership category.
