UU 308: Communication Protocols for Distributed Energy Resources

Event date: 2/4/2019 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Export event

This course will provide an overview of how standard application-layer communication protocols (DNP3 and IEEE 2030.5) are used to manage Distributed Energy Resources (DER) in the electric grid and give insight on how other DER communication protocols are related. Different use cases and requirements for managing DER with communication protocols will be presented as well as guidelines for how to select the application-layer communication protocol(s) to meet DER requirements. Attendees will learn how other standards and mandates, including IEEE 1547, SunSpec, and CA Rule 21, apply to the use of communication protocols for managing DER.
