Innovative Technology for Reliable and Secure OT Communications

Our Mission

The mission of the DNP Users Group is to: Actively Develop and Support Improved Interoperability, Cybersecurity, DER Communications, and Education.

Activities of the Users Group

The DNP Users Group supports our user community and the industry by enhancing and promoting the DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol), also known as IEEE Std. 1815TM. Our members include utilities, suppliers, consultants, and individuals. Many of our initiatives support greater interoperability between supplier’s products and systems and/or enhance cyber security. On-going refinements also add new features and time-saving capabilities which are then included in the next update of IEEE Std 1815. Our growing library of Standards, Application Notes, Guides, Security Notices, and Technical Bulletins provide essential information for our members. The leadership team and technical team members provide periodic educational opportunities including tutorials, white papers, and conference presentations. The technical teams are involved with four different groups as follows:

  • Technical Committee
  • Cybersecurity Task Force
  • Test Management Committee
  • Test Procedure Committee.

Recent and current developments include new:

  • Test procedures.
  • Device profile guide.
  • Secure Authentication v6 (SAv6).
  • Authorization Management Protocol (AMP).
  • Update to the IEEE Std 1815 standard.
  • DER communications standard – IEEE 1815.2TM (draft) – joint effort with MESA.
  • Expanded Conformance Certification Program (CCP).

Announcements

Voting will be open until 11:59PM Eastern on June 30th.   For this type of decision, our bylaws set a high bar for quorum, so we ask that everyone take a few minutes to vote.  Note that you cannot change your vote once submitted.

To assist you, information is included in the document posted on the Home Page: “DNP UG Member Fee Voting Info 2019-06-12”.  In addition, links to a presentation summary and full webinar material are included in the June 12th email and announcement on our Home Page.  Feel free to forward these documents to others within your company to explain why the Users Group is moving in this direction.

Finally, we are holding a final Information Session on June 20th.  You are invited to attend this session where we will present the full webinar material and answer your questions.  See the details below.

If you have questions and would like a response before June 20th, please contact us at: president@dnp.org

Thank you to those that have participated and provided input in this process of arriving at the new proposed fee structure.  Our member input period ran from February 25th  to June 1st, 2019.  We have listened to your input and made many changes while striving to address our current and projected cash flow needs.  The fee structure for voting is Version 6.0. The member community has also provided good input on directions, value enhancements and new initiatives, many of which now appear on our plans and proposals.

Originally, we had planned to release the new proposed fees on June 3rd with a vote at the meeting on June 20th.  However, we concluded that on a change as significant as this, we needed to connect with more members and give a more flexible opportunity to vote than a single event on June 20th.  Therefore, we have delayed our process for several days to put the following in place:

  1. Release fees and updated information on June 12, 2019.
  2. Develop a voting tool to the Home Page of our website along with a new Voting Information document.
  3. Enable voting (on the website) on June 14 through to midnight (Eastern) on June 30, 2019

This afternoon we completed the 2nd of our two planned Member Fee Information Webinars.  At these two webinars we presented our updated (preliminary) member fee structure.  The current fee proposal is Version 4.0 which is on slide 14 of the latest slide deck available here.

Important Announcement from the DNP Users Group on Changes to our Fee Structure, Upcoming Information Sessions and the Special Meeting on June 20, 2019

As a follow up to our announcement at the DNP Users Group Annual Meeting on February 24, 2019, the Director Team of the DNP Users Group wish to remind you of our intent to change the membership fee structure.  During the annual meeting, we described the new programs, upgraded services being provided and planned by the Users Group.  We also presented an initial proposed fee structure and indicated that we intended to follow an open and transparent process. Your input was invited at that time and some has been received.

Over the past few years it has become very apparent that fulfilling the needs of our users and the industry is no longer possible on a purely volunteer basis,  even though our talented volunteers consistently give well over 3000 hours per year!   The bottom line; this change is ..............................
